"Success means doing the best we can with what we have". "Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better".

Yesterday marked 8 years since my family moved to Fosston. It had me heading down memory lane. I started looking through photos throughout the years. I was so embarrassed looking at the photos from when I first started my business. I couldn't believe people paid me for those photos. It's a good thing I charged little to nothing that first year. lol. My first camera when I started was a Canon Rebel t6 which was a crop sensor. I think I paid $250 for it. It didn't take me long to realize that camera was not going to cut it.

Throughout the years I have upgraded my camera 5 more times and upgraded and added to my lenses way more than that. My most recent camera and lens totaled $8000! I can tell a HUGE difference looking at the photos from 2018 verses the photos taken recently. But it isn't just about the gear (yes that is very important to have high quality camera and lenses) it is also about the hours and hours of training and classes, the practice and hands on experience both shooting and editing photos. It is about purchasing new and better lighting equipment and learning better techniques on lighting and posing your subjects.

These specific series of photos in this blog are all newborns. With each year I have worked on getting better and lighting and posing the baby for the best photo and taking lots of classes on the best ways to wrap a baby. I do have quite the addiction to buying newborn props, outfits, wraps and posing aids. It is amazing to see the difference when I have invested in this specific type of photography.

I will always be my worst critic and will always want to be better at my job than I am at that moment. But that pushes me to continue to grow in my profession. Yes it is embarrassing to look at my first years of work but it also fuels me to want to continue to push myself and learn new skills within photography and practice new editing styles.

So I thought you could all enjoy the laughs looking at my work grow and change through the years. I want to give a HUGE shout out and thank you to the clients who have been with me from the beginning! Thank you for giving me the opportunity with every session to learn and grow in my career!!
