Let's eat cake!
Years ago, on a normal, boring Tuesday, I looked at my kids and exclaimed, "It's someone's birthday somewhere in the world right now, right?" They looked at me puzzled and said, "I guess."
"Then hop in the car, we are headed to the grocery store to get a cake." I think they thought I was joking. It wasn't a special occasion for us, but I am sure it was for someone somewhere. So off we went, chose a cute sports themed cake and all had a piece of cake that night and we even sang happy birthday just for laughs. Sometimes in life we just need to eat the cake! I love that my kids will still bring it up sometimes with a giggle, "hey remember that one time mom told us it had to someone's birthday so we were going to buy a cake." These are memories that I will always treasure with my kids. Come on, who doesn't love cake?
One of the very fun types of sessions that I get to do are cake smash sessions. It is funny how some one year olds dive right in and others don't even want to touch it. Thanks to my wonderful baker friend at Love+Flour bakery, I can offer cakes to go with any theme and then I get to have fun setting the stage. This can be as elaborate or as simple as the client wants. Clients are welcome to bring their own cake if they would rather do that. We are blessed with many great bakers in this area!!! Each session has can have different themes, cake flavors, sizes of cakes, but one constant is THERE IS CAKE! I am really contemplating have a 50th birthday cake smash for myself in the distant future (okay I am not fooling anyone, it isn't so distant. lol.)
So is this whole blog about cake? Kind of.
I usually would tell my kids if they asked for cake at the store, we don't need it. It isn't any special occasion like a one year old's birthday cake smash or a 50th birthday party, or graduation and so on. But life is short. Why do we have to wait for an occasion. Sometimes it's fun to just celebrate that somewhere, someone in the world is having a birthday and enjoy some cake.
Just curious.... What is your go to flavor of cake and frosting?
